Businessman James J. Lynch lived in DeWitt County, Texas, with his relative Francis J. Lynch. The latter was born in Cork, Ireland, and immigrated to the United States around 1833. Francis J. Lynch owned a cotton plantation in DeWitt County, served in the Eighth Texas Legislature, and enlisted in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
